Abstract: Lin Daiyu, the main character of A Dream of Red Mansions has complex psychology. Her personality, education background and social background lead to her complex and entangled psychology. This paper mainly studies the translation of LinDaiyu’s psychology description. It will take the psychology of Lin Daiyu as an example and analyze her psychology from her family, education and social background. According the two translations of Yang and Hawkes, the author try to exploring the main description techniques. The author discovers a series of translation skills in the process of studying the phenomenon of translation and examples, including adding the translator’s own understanding, metaphors and choosing words. These are to provide practical methods and techniques of translating characters’ psychology for literature translation.
