Abstract: University motto is the soul of campus which can reflect educational philosophy and characteristics. University motto plays an important role in external publicity. Through the analysis of the linguistic features of the university mottos and the contrast of the differences between Chinese and western university mottos, this study makes people know more about university motto which is a unique type of text. In addition, this study aims to the problems and strategies of translating the Chinese university mottos in a bid to make students both at home and abroad understand the culture spirit of universities and educational philosophy as well. This study intends to make people have a good knowledge of the universities, and then further promotes the students to communicate and learn with each other.
