Abstract: Virginia Woolf (1882一1941) is an important English woman writer in twentieth Century, and she is the main representative of the stream of consciousness and feminist pioneer. Woolf, a very sensitive writer, was surely influenced by the environment surrounded. In order to present the rapid and disturbing changes of her age, foundation of political social system losing stability, Virginia Woolf felt that it was very essential to reform her ways of expression. Therefore, she devoted herself into writing experiments and offered us works with special characteristics of her own. Using Woolf’s masterpiece To the Lighthouse as the text, this paper aims firstly to introduce briefly about Woolf and To the Lighthouse, then to analyze such writing techniques as the stream of consciousness and multiple points of view and so on, thus to enable the readers to understand and remark this novel, to explore new ideas, to enrich the whole research on Virginia Woolf.
