Abstract: Black English is a kind of American English variant. This paper gives a brief introduction of the main characteristics of Black English, and illustrates the linguistic similarities and differences between Black English and American Standard English on syntax, speech and grammar. It concludes that although inherited some features from Standard English, Black English retains its own unique characteristics, including pronunciation, grammar, syntax and other features.
