Abstract: Mother language transfer has always been a hot topic in the field of linguistics. It is also an important factor in second language acquisition. In this paper, the author expounded the mother language transfer theory from the view of phonetics, employed literature review and questionnaires to analyze the influence of mother language transfer on Chinese students’ phonetic learning, which includes positive transfer and negative transfer. At last, the author proposed countermeasures to deal with negative transfer. The aim is to help students to understand mother language transfer, find appropriate countermeasures to reduce the influence of positive transfer and enhance the efficiency of phonetic learning.
