一、教材内容分析
This unit is mainly talking about the neighborhood. Students can learn how to ask for and give directions on the street. They can learn how to use prepositions to describe the position of the buildings such as next to, in front of, between and so on. In this unit, students can be trained to improve the four basic abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Through the activities of introducing the positions of items and finding items in daily life, students can correctly use sentence patterns: There be structure, Where question and prepositions. Because the material is close to life, students will be more interested in this lesson. Students can also learn the special questions and imperatives. Besides, they will know how to describe the buildings which we often use in our daily life in English and recognize more phrases to express the place. Students can have a better understanding of the positions of the items.
二、学习者特征分析
The students are around 12 or 13 years old. They have active thinking and the ability of imitation. The students also aspire to discover new things. They don’t realize the importance of English although their learning environment has changed a lot from primary school to junior middle school. Students can focus on their study. They aren’t interested in the knowledge of English but want to know its practical application in life. Moreover, students aren’t disciplined very well and need the teacher to maintain the classroom order properly. Besides, they are very sensitive at this age and need constant encouragement from teachers. Therefore, more praises should be given to students. Teachers should try their best to use kinds of ways to organize more activities to attract students so as to make students immersed in English learning, and then improve their abilities in all aspects.
