INTRODUCTION

Journey of the pale bear is a children's novel written by Susan Fletcher. In this novel, Arthur runs away from his home. He takes care of a polar bear on a ship from Norway to England in exchange for a chance to find his relatives in London. After the sinking of the ship, Arthur and the polar bear accompany each other and become friends. This paper focuses on the relationship between humans and animals in the novel, and calls on people to love nature and treat animals equally.

Chapters 18-25 are selected for this translation practice. Chapter 18 tells the doctor's plan for me to induce the polar bear into its cage. Chapter 19 tells the story of the polar bear being shot and wounded. "I" successfully induce the polar bear back into the cage, and the polar bear loses its freedom. Chapter 20 tells "I" am forced to bail because the ship is breached and the hole is growing. Chapter 21 tells how "I" learn to stitch up the polar bear’s wound at the request of the doctor. Chapter 22 tells the story of "I" and the polar being together, and in the polar bear's warm company, "I" fall asleep. Chapter 23 tells of the friendly attitude of the polar bear towards "me" and the evil deeds of the sailors who steal my letters. In chapter 24, the ship has a serious right-turn, so "I" worry about the life of the polar bear. Chapter 25 tells the story of the ship being caught by storms, thus "I" and the polar bear are in trouble.

The essay is divided into four parts. The first part is to introduce the background and the content of the novel. The second part is to briefly summarize the process of translation. The third part mainly expounds the problems and solutions in the translation process. The fourth part is the summary and reflection on translation practice.
