INTRODUCTION

Journey of the Pale Bear is written by Susan Fletcher who is an American female novelist and this book gets a honorary reward --SCBWI Golden Kite Award honor books. In this book, the writer tells us a story of a runaway boy befriends a polar bear that’s being transported from Norway to London which based on the real story of a polar bear that lived in the Tower of London. The writer by shaping brave images to appeal us to love animals, find the true freedom. 

Chapter 26-34 is selected for this translation practice. Chapter 26 shows the story of “I” trying to find the key to save the caged bear before ship sinks. Chapter 27 tells the story of “I” fainted, the bear saved “me” to land and happens something like dream. Chapter 28 illustrates the story of the bear’s departure made “me” realize the need for the bear. In Chapter 29, it displays a story of “I” met a brown-haired girl and accidentally reunite with the bear. Chapter 30 shows the story of our reunion and “we” hurt in the escape after villagers found us. Chapter 31 tells the story of the journey with the bear and my determination to go back and find the ship. Chapter 32 describes the story of “I” was targeted by a wild boar and rescued by the bear during a break in the escape. Chapter shows tells the story of “we” found the place of Queen Margrete . Chapter 34 displays a wounded bear who protects “me” which makes trust her.

In the practice, firstly, I will show a brief introduction about the author of the novel and text content. Secondly, I will discuss the translation process, focusing on the translation guiding principles --Skopos theory and its three rules, then analyze text at different concepts. Lastly, enumerate the problems encountered in the translation.

在小论文，首先对小说作者、文本内容等作简要介绍。其次，对翻译过程进行了探讨，重点介绍了翻译的指导原则----目的论及其运用的三法则：目的原则、连贯原则和忠实原则，并且举例分析原则下的翻译技巧；然后列举翻译过程中遇到的问题例如文中的专有词汇及疑难词汇的翻译，最后总结实践中获得的经验。
