一、教材内容分析
This is the fifth unit in the first volume of Grade 8 Go for it, which is published by People’s Education Press. This unit focuses on talking about preferences about TV shows and making plans. In Section A, students are supposed to learn some TV shows and use sentence pattern “do you want to watch a game show’’ to talk about likes and dislikes about TV shows. The grammar and oral English materials are included in this part. In Section B, students will learn some new words of movies and descriptive words to express their opinions. Listening and speaking activities, reading activities and collaborative activities are all centered on TV shows or movies. The grammar focus in this unit is infinitive used as objects. Students can use it to communicate with others naturally. The topic of this unit is close to students’ life, and can easily arouse students' interest in learning and make them willing to participate in relevant activities.
二、学习者特征分析
Students in Grade 8 are more curious about the world, especially during the adolescence. Some students spend their time on computer games and appearance rather than studies. The learning material in grade 8 is also more difficult and challenging than grade 7. Therefore, some students lose interests in English learning and don’t have confidence in making progress, which is one of the reasons why the level varies greatly among grade eight students. What’s more, all the students in the class are from countryside, most of them do not have solid foundation of English. Therefore, the teacher should give them more opportunities to speak English while talking about the TV shows. Through cooperative learning, students’ learning difficulty can be reduced. Students of all levels will experience the joy of success, improve their ability to use language comprehensively, and make rapid progress.
