一、教材内容分析
This unit is the fourth unit in the People’s education press English Book one. The topic of this unit is “earthquake”. All the activities revolve around the earthquake,especially the Tangshan earthquake in 1976. This unit is divided into eight parts. The first part is warming-up. In this part, the topic “what harm will be caused in case of earthquake”is brought out through two pictures. The second part is pre-reading. Two open questions are set in this part, and the question can increase students’ common sense and improve their adaptability. This part paves the way for the next reading. Students can answer these two questions by reading passage about earthquakes and using some common sense of life. And the next part is reading. The reading section describes the pre-earthquake, epicenter and post-earthquake of Tangshan earthquake in 1976. The reading material describes some abnormal natural phenomena and abnormal behaviors of animals before the earthquake. The coming of the earthquake is fierce and flattens the whole city in an instant and the people bravely face the reality and implement rescue and reconstruction work in time after the earthquake. The comprehensive part includes three groups of exercises, the main purpose of which is to help students better understand the reading part of the article. Learning about language is divided into two parts: discovering useful words and expressions and discovering useful structures. In the first part, students are required to master the meaning of key words and use them correctly on the basis of mastering the article. This part can cultivate students’ ability to guess the meaning of words by using context. The second part is to learn attributive clauses. Using language is divided into reading, writing and speaking as well as listening and writing. Reading, writing and speaking includes reading an invitation, writing a speech and a little talk about a new set of Tangshan stamps. The listening part tells the story of an earthquake survivor. According to the listening materials, students can make correct judgment and answers questions. The purpose is to cultivate students’ ability to acquire details and imitate standard pronunciation and intonation through listening. In the writing section, students are required to write a news report in the newspaper, and learn how to write according to the standard steps, such as choosing the appropriate title and organizing language. In addition, this part also trains students to pay attention to the title, main idea and details while writing. The summing up section helps students to consolidate what they have learned in this unit, including the knowledge about earthquakes, useful verbs, nouns, expressions and new grammar items. The learning tip section gives some suggestions on how to listen to English, advising students to listen to more English programs on radio or TV.
