一、教材内容分析
This unit is the first unit of Grade 9 PEP edition — Go for it! The topic of this unit is about learning how to learn and is related to students’ own learning methods or learning strategies. The purpose of this unit is to enable students to find out their own problems in the process of English learning and learn about the corresponding solutions. Then students will be more interested in English learning and eventually become successful English learners. In Section A, students can learn about several common English learning methods Besides, students have a knowledge of various solutions corresponding to specific questions about different English skills and get the initial understanding of this structure — “Verb + by with gerund” by listening practice and oral communication activities. In the first reading section, the passage tells the story in the first person that a passive English learner turned into an active student because of her love for English movies. Students can realize the importance of increasing learning interest and improving learning methods. In “Grammar Focus”, students can summarize the usage of the preposition “by” and can use the important sentence structures to make conversations. In Section B, this article focuses on a wide range of learning difficulties and their solutions. Students can reflect on their own learning and apply the methods of excellent learners to become successful English learners. And the writing task of this unit is writing a letter to a friend in which students should give him/her some advice about the best ways to learn English. The topic of this unit is close to students’ study life so that they have more confidence in learning, which makes them become more active in the process of learning.
