一、教材内容分析
This unit is the first unit of People’s Education Press eighth grade. The topic of this unit is about vacation, which mainly to improve students’ communicative abilities. Students can further talk with others about where they went and what they did during the vacation. Meanwhile, students can use sentence patterns flexibly, such as “Where did…?” “What did…?” and “Did you…? Yes, I did. /No, I didn’t.” At the same time, communication can make students consolidate the use of the past simple tense. This unit is close to students’ life, which can increase their learning interests. Hence, it can make them take an active part in class activities. By learning the unit, students can master the new words, sentence patterns and improve their reading, listening and writing abilities. There are five classes in this unit.

Most students of the eighth grade have not studied English in depth yet, so they are generally interested in English and they have strong curiosity. They have a strong desire to speak English, which requires teachers to often provide opportunities for them to communicate with each other, such as group activities, so that they can express their own views. In junior high school, students’ cognitive competence is constantly improved and their ability of thinking is also enhanced. But some of them are naughty and they often lose their concentration. Therefore, teachers should actively encourage them and arouse their interest in learning. Teachers should interact more with students in class, create an interesting classroom atmosphere, and let students learn happily.
