一、教材内容分析
This unit is the ninth unit in the first volume of Grade 7. The topic of this unit is “the school subject”, and the materials are suitable for students’ daily life. Students in Grade 7 begin to learn various subjects - Chinese, Math, English, Biology, History and so on. As they learn these subjects every day, they must have their favorite subjects, and their own way of learning. Through discussion and learning, they can improve their interest in learning and make reasonable learning arrangements. In section A, by listening, speaking and discussing, students can ask others about their favorite subject in English and answer the reason why they like it. Students will learn to use some adjectives, like “fun, interesting, relaxing boring, difficult” to express why they like the subject. Students also can learn new vocabulary and use special question for oral communication, for example “What’s your favorite subject? Why do you like…? Who is your …teacher?” Section B discusses the arrangement of the schedule, what classes are held, and when they start. Students will learn weekly expression and combine with subject expressions to further improve their ability of oral communication and transition to reading comprehension and written expression study, cultivate students’ ability of reading and writing. These activities can cultivate students’ English expression ability in their real life.

After the basic learning of primary school English, Grade 7 students have already had the basic knowledge of learning English. They are both curious and worried about the learning of junior high school English. On the one hand, students are curious about the knowledge, on the other hand, they worry about their ability of learning English. Therefore, teachers should play a key role in the daily learning. Teachers can choose some reasonable teaching methods and teaching activities to improve students’ learning enthusiasm, promote the improvements of students’ English skills. Through the study of this unit, students will enhance their ability to learn English and develop their enthusiasm for English.
